TUG OF WAR FOR THE PRESIDENTSHIP OF KONKANNI SAHITYA AKADEMI

The present term of the Advisory Board of the Karnataka Konkanni Sahitya Akademi is getting over at the end of September.  By then, the State Government has to appoint a new President for the Akademi.

It is understood that the present President Mr. Basti Vaman Shenoy has no intention to continue in the position and has suggested the name of Mnsgr. Alexander D'Souza, the ex-editor of Raknno, for the prestigious post.  Another effort has been made to push forward the name of famous Kannada litterateur Mr. Na. D'Souza, by some groups who think that Fr. Alexander D'Souza though a good personality, will find it difficult to deal with the government.  The third person who is in the run for the coveted post is Mr. Paul Moras, the ex-president of Konkanni Bhasha Mandal, Karnataka.  He through his political contacts is trying his best to make it to the top post.

Anyone, who gets nominated by the Government, will be the 4th president of the Akademi.  Earlier Mr. V.J.P. Saldanha, Mr. B.V. Baliga and Mr. Basti Vaman Shenoy (2 terms) have served as the presidents of the Akademi since its inception.
