Dear valued visitors, we have been receiving several news items pertaining to Konkanni Christian community. Since ours is a site which basically caters to the Konkanni cultural needs, so far we had refused to publish this.  But, after considering lot of enthusiasm and interest among our people to cover this type of news, we have introduced now a separate news column, which in future, will publish merely news related to Konkanni Christian community. Famous Kannada Writer Naa D'Souza Honoured

Honnavar, November 10: During Children's Festival 2001, Karnataka's famous Kannada writer, Shri Naa D'Souza was honoured by Education Director Shri Rajiv Naika with shawl.  It is nice to enlighten kids with Indian art and culture's richness he said.  Program president Bala Pragathi Kendra director Sr. Maria Goretti said that since four years this center is celebrating Children's Festival in Honnavar in the month of November.  It brings out the talents of young children and giving them encouragement to show their talents in front of the crowd.  If it helps our nation, we will be very proud she said.  When sun goes to sleep light bugs come out and show their light to us.  Same way our kids should be the light bugs in our societies to show their talents by taking part in these performances said Shir Naa D'Souza.   

From today till December every Saturday at 3 p.m. these festivities will be performed by children.  800 students from 65 schools of Honnavar district will participate in this event to show the talents of their children.

Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Udupi Eelections

Udupi, November 6:  Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Udupi (R) held it's annual meeting at Udupi Don Bosco Hall and selected the following office bearers for the coming year.  Shri P. Rabindra Nayak President, Shrimati Lydwin Pinto and Shri N. Madhusudana Nayak Vice Presidents, Shri Raghuveera Nayak Secretary, Shrimathi Shobha Bhandarkar Joint Secretary and Shri U. Sudhakara Shet Treasurer.  Shri Suresh Kini, Shri K. Ravindra Nayak, Smt. U. Kalyani Pai, Shri K. Krishnanand Kamath, Smt. Philomena Lobo, Shri Lawrence Pais, Shri Vincent Saldanha elected as executive committee members.

USA: I.C.A.A. CELEBRATES HALLOWEEN

India Catholic Association of America, Chicagoland celebrated Halloween on October 28, 2001 in Palos Park. Program was started with a mass by Fr. Denis Cornero and newest Indian priest from the U.S. Fr. Alok Alva. As a tradition, a living memorial was given to the family members who lost their loved one during the past year. After mass, ICAA general body
meeting was started with a minute of silence to the victims of recent Terrorists Attacks in the U.S. and a song God Bless America, sung by emcee Austin Prabhu, immediate past president
of ICAA. Annual report and accounts were submitted to the members. Then executive committee elections were held for the year 2002 which were as follows: President - Savio Lobo, Vice Pesident - Lena Salve, Secretary - Joe D'Mello, Corresponding Secretary - Berni Rodrigues, Treasurer - Denzil D'Souza, Asst. Treasurer - Stella Pillay, Public Relations - Rosemary Thalanany and Spiritual Director - Fr. Alok Alva.

There was a parade of Halloween characters. Several kids and adults paraded with their show-off Halloween costumes. All kids received goodie bags from president Bhimla Anthony. 
There was a culinary Indian dinner and dance to the music of D.J. Anil D'Souza. 

ICAA donated $2000 to Gujarath earthquake victims fund and $1000 to Terrorists Attacks victims fund. On November 25th at 2:45 p.m. ICAA will hold a showcase of cultural activities
under the chairmanship of Austin Prabhu at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago as part of Christmas Around the World. Also ICAA will decorate 'India Christmas Tree' at the
museum with Indian ornaments and decoration as it's annual activity. There will be a Childrens and Adults Choir, Indian dances and entertainment. Indian consul Ashok Das will be the
guest of honour. On December 9th Sunday, there will be a Christmas Celebration at the Four Points Hotel Sheraton at Schiller Park with mass, entertainment and dinner. Newly ordained
Indian Syro Malabar Catholic bishop and consul general of India will be the chief guests. For further information, please contact: kalasampath@aol.com.

Pamboor Welfare Association’s Sahamilan in Dubai on the 26th of October 2001

 Pamboor Welfare Association, UAE,  an association of the parishioners of Pamboor located in the outskirts of Udupi. The people of Pamboor celebrated their 3rd “Sahamilan” on the 26th of October at Richmond Hotel ballroom, Dubai and the program took off at 12 noon with a beautiful prayer by Kishore Noronha. Ashok Menezes and the team sung their self composed title song and then Ashok Menezes took over as the Master of ceremony.

Chief guests of the program were, Konkan community’s spiritual director Fr. Cyprian D’souza and  Mr. Walter Nandalike, Convener of Konkani website Daijidubai.com. Mr. Santhan Alva, President of the association gave a warm welcome to the guests and spoke a few words about the guests of honour. Mr. Daini D’souza, Secretary presented a report on associations’s activities at present and a brief summary of the past programs of the association in Dubai recently.

 Honorary guest Mr. Walter Nandalike stressed the need for preserving Konkani as a language and not to forget our Konkani motherland, heritage and culture. Fr. Cyprian D’souza blessed the association and urged the Konkan community to remain united by means of such programs from time to time.  Mr. Valerian Noronha, vice-president of the association thanked one and all for being there on this great occasion.

 The buffet spreadout was prepared by few members with Mangalorean delicacies mainly Dukra maas, Sanna etc. 

The cultural program kicked of with talented people from Pamboor on stage participating in Singing, Dance, Skit, Drama etc. The tulu drama “AL LA ONJI PONNU ATTHA” drew much attention from the crowd and it was appreciated by one and all. The drama lasted for almost an hour and was directed by Mr. Valerian Alva. Various skits performed by artists were an added attraction to the cultural program. Finally, the cultural secretary of the association Mr. Kishore Noronha thanked one and all for being there throughout the program and thus the celebration came to an end wishing one another and everyone participated in the final dance “Baila”.
