Prestigious Divo Rs. 50,000 Cash Award Goes to Ronald Pereira and Molly Lobo

The Rs. 50,000 Divo cash award for the year 2001 goes to two distinguished artists from the Konkani literary and dramatic field. The two recepients are Mr. Ronald Pereira and Mrs. Molly Lobo. While Mr. Ronald Pereira, a Konkani short story writer gets Rs. 30,000, a Citation and Mann Potr; Mrs. Molly Lobo, a Konkani stage artist gets Rs. 20,000, a Citation and Mann Potr.

They have been selected from the several entries received earlier, by a specially appointed selection panel comprising Mr. Francis Fernandes Cascia (Dramatist), Mr. A. M. D'Souza, (Hotelier), Mr. Henry D'Paula, (Konkani Writer), Mr. Naveen Kulshekar (Konkani Writer), and Mr. S. Lobo (former Asst. Editor, ‘Udev’).

Selection of candidates for the award is made on the basis of those who have made excellent contribution towards Konkani and are facing hardships at present.

Mr. Ronald Pereira (64) served Konkani with his writings for over 45 years. He has been without regular income ever since lockout was declared in his company and has no other source of income.

Mrs. Molly Lobo (50) a Konkani stage artist for over 40 years. Acted in over 60 Konkani dramas. Today living alone without any source of income she is also a widow.

The cash amount of Rs. 50,000 is raised by reserving 25% advertisement amount in the ‘Divo Mt. Mary special issue’ published during 1st week of September 2001. This issue consisting 52 pages of tabloid size with a number of multi colour pages and with over 40 talented contributors participating in the issue specialised in their respective fields.

The award will be presented to the winners at a function which will be held at Dr. Antonio da Silva High School Hall, Dadar, Mumbai. at 10.00 a.m. on 4th November 2001.

Divo, a popular Illustrated Konkani Weekly published from Mumbai since seven years in Kannada script is widely read in Karnataka, Mumbai and in Gulf countries as well. NATIVITY FEAST IN BAHRAIN.

 

 

The Catholic Community in Bahrain recorded history on 14th September 2001 in
Karnataka Social Club by celebrating the Nativity Feast (Monthi Fest) in a
grand manner by reflecting the cultural tradition for the accomplishment of
the gathering who felt being in their native place. The credit goes to the
Karnataka Social Club & Konkani Kutam who jointly & successfully
exhibited their meticulous planning in organising this harmonious feast for
the first time in Bahrain.
 
The Trinity of priests from the Catholic Church of Bahrain participated in the
celebration & FR. Vincent blessed the Novem & emphasized the significance of
the feast in adoration of Mother Mary. President of Karnataka Social Club,
Ronald Dsouza who played prominent role in organising the function welcomed
the dignitaries & the gathering. Novem which is the symbolic hallmark of
this feast was served to the whole crowd & the children demonstrated their
discipline in admiration of Mother Mary by offering flowers with mellifluous
hymns relevant to the feast.

The entertainment consisting of dance & skit enthralled the crowd & the skit
Samskratheche Sathyaanaas, written & directed by Ronald Olivera depicted the
significance of nurturing our culture. The stunning performance in acting by
Hilary Tellis, Edward Almeida, Ivan Dsouza, Alwyn Peris, Gracy  Pais &
Shubitha Dsouza drew loud applause from the crowd. Emotions ran high when the
concluding part of the skit Sakkad Sangatha Melyam was sung by all from the
fathom of their hearts.
 
Delicious food was catered by Shringar Restaurant comprising of seven
vegetables, rice & vorn in traditional banana leaves.
 
Ronald Olivera proficiently compered the programme.
